Welcome to Froilán M. Dopico Web Page
I am Full Professor of Applied Mathematics at the Department of Mathematics of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and SIAM Fellow (Class of 2019), where SIAM stands for Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

My present research interests are Numerical Linear Algebra and Matrix Theory. In particular, the development and analysis of accurate and efficient algorithms for structured matrices, matrix perturbation theory related to these algorithms and other structured problems, polynomial and rational matrices and their linearizations, polynomial and rational eigenvalue problems, theory and algorithms for matrix equations, and different matrix inverse problems. In the past, I did research on Computational Physics. More information on the problems that I have studied can be found in the papers listed in my Scientific Publications.

I collaborate in the editorial work of several leading journals in Linear Algebra and Numerical Analysis (see Editorial Work).

Relevant services in my institution include:
  • Since  November 2013 until February 2018, I served as Vice Chair of the Department of Mathematics of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
Relevant services in societies include:
  • Since June 2022, I am serving in the Householder Committee,  which is responsible for issuing the invitations, for designing  the scientific program and for finding locations for the Householder Symposium on Numerical Linear Algebra,  one of the most important  conferences in this discipline that is held every three years since 1961.
The citations received by my papers can be found in Google Scholar and in the Web of Science.    See also my ORCID profile.

Biographical sketch:
I  got an undergraduate degree in "Theoretical Physics" from Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1987 and a PhD in the PhD Program of "Atomic, Molecular, and Nuclear Physics" also
from Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1992. The title of my PhD dissertation was "Numerical  Methods for Fokker-Planck Equations", supervised by Prof. Mario Soler.  I joined the Department of Mathematics of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in 1991, where I have been "Teaching Assistant", "Assistant Professor",  "Associate Professor", and "Full Professor" since 2009.
