The Ph. D. period is a time for working very hard, but, simultaneously, it should be a time to really enjoy Mathematics!

I would like to supervise Ph. D. Theses to creative students that love to work hard. Please, contact me if you are interested in problems related to those that I have studied in my papers. The Department of Mathematics at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid offers Ph. D. grants every year, and good students have high chances to obtain one of them.

• Kenet Pomés Portal, Structured condition numbers for parameterized quasiseparable matrices. Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. September 29, 2016. This thesis was awarded the following prize: Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado de la Universidad Carlos III in 2016.
• Javier González Pizarro, Krylov methods for large-scale modern problems in numerical linear algebra. Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. September 28, 2018.
• Luis Miguel Anguas Márquez, Polynomial and rational spectral problems: conditioning, backward errors and inverse problems. Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. December 11, 2019. This thesis was awarded the following prize: Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado de la Universidad Carlos III in 2021.
• Mª del Carmen Quintana Ponce, Linearizations of rational matrices. Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. September 28, 2021. This thesis was awarded a Honorable Mention in the 2022 Alston S. Householder Prize for the best PhD thesis in numerical linear algebra earned between 1 January2020 and 31 December 2021. (Coadvisor: Silvia Marcaida, Departamento de Matemática Aplicada y EIO, Universidad del País Vasco, Leioa, Bizkaia).
